Residence and Work Permits in Spain – General Pathway
Spain’s General Residence Permits are designed for individuals who do not qualify for the Fast Track pathway.
These authorizations generally involve longer processing times and additional local steps but remain the most appropriate route for many applicants and their families.
Main options include:
General Work Permit
For applicants with a confirmed job offer in Spain.
The employer must obtain prior authorization through the labour market test, demonstrating that the position cannot be filled locally.
Applications are processed by the provincial immigration office, and permits are typically valid for one year, renewable.
Self Employment Visa
For entrepreneurs and freelancers who wish to establish and operate their own business in Spain.
Applicants must present a viable business plan, proof of sufficient funds to support themselves and the business, and evidence of relevant qualifications or experience.
Applications are submitted through the corresponding Spanish Consulate.
Non-Lucrative Visa
For individuals who want to reside in Spain without engaging in work or professional activity.
Applicants must demonstrate sufficient passive income or savings, along with private health insurance providing full coverage in Spain.
This option is commonly chosen by retirees and those with independent means.
Applications are submitted through the Spanish Consulate.
Student Permit
For those admitted to an officially recognized program in Spain including higher education, vocational training, or research.
Holders may be able to work part-time under certain conditions and can extend their stay for the duration of their studies.
In many cases, this permit can also serve as a pathway to a work authorization after graduation.
Applications are generally submitted at the Spanish Consulate in the applicant’s country of residence.
Spanish Citizenship
We assist clients in acquiring Spanish nationality by residence.
The standard requirement is 10 years of legal and continuous residence in Spain, though reduced periods apply in certain cases.
Our services include document preparation, application submission, and follow-up with the Civil Registry to ensure an efficient process.
EU Citizens Registration
Citizens of the European Union, European Economic Area, or Switzerland have the right to live and work in Spain.
To formalise this right, they must prove sufficient economic means and register locally to obtain the Certificate of Registration as an EU Resident (certificado de registro de ciudadano de la Unión).
EU Family Members
For relatives of EU/EEA/Swiss citizens who are accompanying or joining them in Spain.
Eligible family members include spouses, registered partners, dependent children, and dependent ascendants (parents or grandparents).
Holders of the Residence Card for Family Members of EU Citizens are entitled to live and work in Spain for the duration of the card.
Permit for Spanish National Family Members
For relatives of Spanish nationals, granting the right to live and work in Spain under similar conditions to EU family members.
Eligible relatives include spouses, unmarried partners, dependent children, and dependent ascendants.
This right is formalised through the Residence Card for Family Members of a Spanish Citizen.
